The team at Straight Forward Clinics is dedicated to the provision of chiropractic care with a difference, helping business professionals achieve their health care goals and maintain a high level of performance.
Straight Forward is one of only a handful of Australian clinics to promote Advanced Biostructural Correction (ABC™). This technique reverses the effects of the body’s natural compensation for old injuries and physical trauma and provides a long-term solution to pain and discomfort.
We can help you manage a range of injuries and illness, and can reduce or rid you of your pain and discomfort. We specialise in the treatment of neck and back pain, poor posture, sciatica, headaches and general lack of energy.
We design a personalised posture correction plan to meet your needs and work with you to take charge of pain and your long-term health.
My goal in this practice is to help you understand the source and nature of chronic pain and explain how you can mindfully locate and identify the cause of stress in your body. I’ll look at how standing, sitting and sleeping can affect your habitual posture, and I’ll uncover the breakthrough technique that brings results that were previously out of reach. When used with care and attention to diet and lifestyle, the results are unimaginable.
Most people regard their body’s pain with a sense of bafflement. In fourteen years of practice, the one question I’m asked most often by clients is:
“Why am I in pain?”
Followed closely by, “Why is my body like this?”
To properly answer this question based on the healthcare field’s current understanding of how the body works, is a challenge. The common perception of alternative therapies for dealing with structural body complaints varies from:
The zeal of the converted: “It’s life changing!”
To the ambivalent: “There is no research to prove its efficacy,
so it doesn’t work,”
To the downright dismissive: “It is dangerous to trust alternative therapies with your health – it can make you worse!”
These attitudes, coupled with the fact that not all treatment techniques work for all people, make for a tough environment when you’re looking for a solution.
The difference that I make in this sea of clashing views is that I practice a technique which, in my years of experience, has had the most significant results in terms of consistent outcomes for postural correction and the improvement of patients’ well being across the board.
It’s a pioneering way of thinking about postural correction, which creates freedom in the body by correcting forward movement of the spinal segments that the body can’t correct by itself. This enables faster healing and increased freedom in the body, which many people have not experienced for years.
The benefits don’t stop at the merely physical though. I also want to help you understand the relationship between the human skeleton and its posture and the psychological aspects of health. Through proper and careful treatment, your body structure can be corrected, which in turn improves your habits, concentration and focus. This has flow-on effects in other areas, such as confidence and body shape, too.
Quite simply, the knowledge I have to share with you has the potential to change your life, your mind and, your body.
Before we get into that though, I’ll tell you a little more about myself, so that you understand how my experiences have led me to where I am today.
A job opportunity led me to the UK, which was an exciting move. During my time there, I helped establish Europe’s largest Chiropractic group as well as working with and mentoring more than 120 Chiropractors, while treating tens of thousands of clients. It was busy and rewarding, and I learnt a lot that affects how I practice today.
I was able to observe and practice a range of treatment methods, learned from the collective experience of my colleagues. This let me trial and witness the many varied results of their chosen techniques – a survey of the sort that not many chiropractors have the chance to conduct. I didn’t know it then, but that time was instrumental in making me the practitioner that I am today. I’ve always strived to improve my knowledge in this field – to expand my toolbox – in order to better help my patients, and I can say with confidence that as a result of those experiences, I understand in detail the requirements needed to make lasting, beneficial change to a body.
Sixteen years ago, at the beginning of my career, I didn’t appreciate the scope of the life-changing benefits that alternative therapies can provide. I trained in muscle relief, mechanical adjustment, structural adjustment and cranial techniques. I treated clients and saw that my treatments reduced their pain, improved their posture and concentration and boosted their immune system and organ function. I loved my work, and the positive effect I had on people’s lives.
One major source of mostly ignored body stresses is emotion. Usually emotional difficulty manifests in the body over a long period of time, but will show up eventually. Many alternative health professionals I’ve crossed paths with approach their work from a musculoskeletal standpoint. Personally, I acknowledge the greater mind-body connection and take into account the emotional aspect of patient care. I believe this crossover makes an essential difference to a treatment result, and so throughout my career, I’ve made it my mission to raise awareness of the importance of this connection to my patients. My aim is to give people freedom through an understanding of how their body works.
Throughout the writing of this book I recalled thousands of cases I’d seen where new patients would ask the question that became more familiar over the years: ‘What’s wrong with my body?’ Most of their difficulties manifested over a long period of time, and even though they were physical in nature, the catalyst for their seeking treatment can be largely attributed to emotional stress.
